I have recently been given an Aloe Vera plant, which I had just left to its own devices. However, I noticed that when I watered it, all the water was running out. I lifted the plant up to investigate and realised it had been potted in very little soil and was a little root bound.
So over the weekend, I repotted it into a slightly bigger pot. It was relatively straightforward as the plant lifted straight out of the pot. If you find yours doesn’t, then gently twist it out by holding onto the leaves and twisting back and forth slowly and it should ease out.
I prepare the new pot by putting in a soil up to about halfway up the pot, then I place the aloe vera plant in the pot and then fill up the rest of the pot with soil, pat it down and give it a good watering. Et voila!
This is a quick and easy way to repot an Aloe vera plant. I will do a longer post on repotting in general in due course – how to choose the right pots, when you need to repot etc – but this is an easy simple guide to follow.
PS. The plant looks a little bashed and bruised, I promise that is how I received it, not what I did during the repotting (see the image at the top which is how it looked before repotting)! I am hoping to nurse it back to full health.
My top tip – prepare your new pot in advance so you can just slot the plant in, rather than trying to juggle the plant and putting in soil to a new pot! I just used a standard plastic pot but I have read that Aloe Vera plants do well in terracotta pots. However, mine seem to be doing fine in plastic!
I actually have two aloe vera plants, I will do an introduction post on them soon!
