My favourite plants

This is going to be a controversial one! I was just thinking that as my plant family has really expanded over the past year, what would I say are my favourite types of plants?

It has really changed over the years. I have my childhood favourites like my alocasia, then I was into trailing or long limbed (if that’s the correct phrase) plants like my Christmas cactus. This year I have gotten into statement plants like my calathea. It may be a space thing also, as early on in my plant journey I was sharing flats with others so I couldn’t dominate with my urban jungle! Now I have my own space I am free to expand as much as I like. However, I am quickly outgrowing my space and can’t wait to have a bigger home (with more light!) so I can spread my plants around the rooms and invest in another giant like Sandy.

For now, I am restricting myself and not buying as many plants until I move (well unless one really needs rescuing like the rattlesnake plant I recently got….) but I already know what plants I would get if I had the space. I may do a post on that soon.

So as you can see, I have avoided directly answering the question of what is my favourite plant as there is no answer! I really love them all, there are, of course, some that are more attention grabbing at the moment as I’m working from home – I’d say that is Callie, Sandy and Mary – and they are such a good distraction from the monotony of lockdown. I love looking at Alice when I’m reminiscing and Aggie is so stunning that I am always moving her round to places of more prominence. So the answer I guess is that I love them all and it ebbs and flows over the seasons.

What is your favourite plant?
