Introducing Tema the Tradescantia Nanouk: The Purple Power Plant

New plant alert! And also belated happy new year! It’s 2021 and we’re back in lockdown in the UK… however I got a few new(ish) plants over the past few months which I will be introducing you to over time. Today’s introduction is to Tema who is a Tradescantia Nanouk and so pretty! I got her on a whim when I was buying plants as presents for Christmas and can you blame me!

How do you care for Tradescantia Nanouk?

Light: This pinky purple plant likes bright, indirect light. I currently have her up in a hanging basket near a south facing window. I think this is ok for the winter but I will have to keep an eye to see that it is not too bright for her in the summer. She does need enough light to make sure she keeps her beautiful colouring.

Water: As with most plants, the Tradescantia likes its soil moist but not overwatered. It is important not to let it dry out.

Humidity: Tradescantia Nanouks love humidity so I have been incorporating it into my new humidifier routine.

Fertilising: I plan to start feeding Tema every couple of months over the spring/summer.

What I love about Tradescantia Nanouk: Well the beautiful pinky purple colour of course! It has made a lovely bright addition to my plant family amongst the various shades of green. I also don’t have many trailing plants so I’m looking forward to seeing how Tema grows and learning new tips and tricks.

Do you have a Tradescantia Nanouk? Do you have any advice or do anything differently? I’d love to hear.
