Introducing Mary Monstera: The Massive, Majestic Plant

Mary is my Monster Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant. Another relative new plant to my collection, gifted to me by my lovely mum. I had been telling her I really wanted a Monstera but couldn’t find one for love nor money in my area, and she came across one in her local supermarket!

Monsteras are truly eye-catching because of the size they can grow to. I got Mary when she was just a little smaller than what she is now and I’m looking forward to seeing how big she will grow. I also plan to experiment with cuttings and see what it’s like growing a Monstera from that.

How do you care for Monstera Deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant)?

Light: Swiss Cheese Plants like moderate, indirect light. They supposedly need enough dappled light to get the distinctive ‘swiss cheese’ effect to its leaves. I have noticed that the closer I put Mary to the window, the bigger her leaves get. I am pretty sure this is because my living room is relatively darker (see more about that in my Calathea Plant Introduction).

Water: Consensus seems to be that Monstera Deliciosas should be watered roughly every 1 to 2 weeks. I water Mary every 10 days or so.

Humidity: Calatheas like moderate humidity. I mist Mary along with Callie, Aggie and the others every few days.

Fertilising: I feed my Monstera every couple of months.

Monstera Deliciosa

What I love about Monstera Deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant): Its massive growth capacity. I have seen some amazing pictures of huge Monstera plants on Instagram (I often post these to my Stories, follow me if you’re interested in seeing!). I can’t wait to see how big Mary can go, I’ve repotted her once into a slightly bigger pot after I got her and I will repot again if/when I move house so I can adjust to how much space I will have.

Do you have a Monstera Deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant) or any other type of Monstera? Do you have any advice or do anything differently? I’d love to hear.
