I got another plant! My mum bought me Constance – a Calathea Crocata, also known as Eternal Flame – for my birthday. I now have three calatheas and they are each stunningly individual and unique. Calathea Crocatas have beautiful golden flowers and it is such a unique addition to my plant family.
How do you care for Calathea Crocata?
Light: This beautiful plant needs bright, indirect light, but not direct sun (as with other calatheas). I am trialling Constance in my bedroom which gets bright light but it is diffused by a window covering I have up. I’ll have to keep an eye to check the light isn’t too bright.
Water: Keep the soil moist but not overwatered. Also calatheas are sensitive to hard water so try using filtered water or leaving tap water in your jug overnight before watering.
Humidity: Calatheas Crocatas need humidity so keep it well misted and in a room with good levels of humidity.
Fertilising: Like Callie, I plan to feed Rachel every month or so during the spring/summer.
What I love about Calathea Crocata: It definitely has the wow factor! When my mum sent me a picture of it, I was in awe of the beautiful golden flowers. I certainly haven’t seen a plant like this one before. I want it to have pride of place in my living room but because of its specific needs I may have to keep it in a room where I won’t see it as much like my bedroom.
Do you have a Calathea Crocata? Do you have any advice or do anything differently? I’d love to hear.
